Matches & dates
How matching works and what happens next.
From what you wrote about yourself, compared with what other people wrote — not
from a swipe count. Then the practical filters: the same campus, close enough to
meet, and both of you wanting to meet someone like the other.
The usual reasons:
- You haven't asked yet. Matches come when you tap Find my match
on Discover.
- Matching opens campus by campus, so your campus may not be matching yet.
- You turned off Show me on Discover.
- Location is off for Sarx, so the app doesn't know which area you're in.
- Your profile isn't finished — the app needs your basics, your answers and a
photo before you can be matched.
To match you with people close enough to actually meet. When you turn it on, the
app sends one rough fix — an area about a kilometre across — and the exact coordinates
are not stored. Nobody you're matched with ever sees where you are; at most they see
a distance band.
Without location, Sarx can't place you, so you can't be matched.
Tap Find my match on Discover. Sarx looks for the best person for
you who's free to be matched, and when it finds them you'll see
It's a match. If nobody fits right now, it keeps looking for you —
you can cancel while it searches.
You get a few requests a day. The card shows how many you have left and when they
reset (1 pm Eastern). A request that finds nobody doesn't use one up. You're never
introduced to the same person twice.
You're always matched within your own campus. Students at two different schools
can match only where Sarx has linked those two campuses together.
You'll both see the match — each other's photos and what you matched on — and can
tap Start Chatting. From there, the point is a first date at one of
the Sarx venues on your campus, where a table for two is held. Neither of you learns
where the other is; the only place either of you is told about is the venue.
On a newly opened campus, Sarx pays up to $200 of the bill at the venue, for
whatever you order from its normal menu. Anything past that is settled with the
venue as on any other night. That launch programme is limited on each campus, and
once it's used, couples pay for themselves.
A no-show is recorded against the pair, and the two of you go on a cooldown, so
it can't simply happen again the next evening. If someone doesn't turn up repeatedly,
it counts against their account.

Didn't show up. If anything about it worries you,
write to us as well.
Everything is in the Messages tab: new matches at the top, then
your chats, with older ones folded under Past. The tab's badge is
the number of conversations with something unread.
Say hello soon — a new match that nobody writes to doesn't stay open forever. If a
message shows Not sent, tap Retry; it won't be sent
twice.
In the conversation, tap More, then Unmatch.
They won't be told, and you won't be matched with them again.
If they did something that worried you, use Report instead — see
how to report someone.
Yes. In the conversation, tap More, then Mute,
for 8 hours or a week. You can Unmute any time.
